One of the most popular certifications for project professionals is the Project Management Professional (PMP). This is administered by the Project Management Institute based in the USA. The new PMP® Exam was launched on January 2nd, 2021. Here are the changes made in the PMP Exam.

1. The Pattern of the PMP Exam – There will be a variety of questions, including multiple-choice, matching, multiple responses, hot spots, and limited fill-in-the-blank. 

2. New Domains of the PMP Exam – The old domain of the PMP exam are Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. These are no longer the domains of the Current PMP Exam. The reason for this change is based on the comments received by the PMI from leaders and professionals all throughout the world, so here are the new domains of the PMP Exam: 

PEOPLE – It highlights the soft skills required to successfully lead a project team in today’s dynamic environment.

PROCESS – It highlights the technical requirements for effective project management.

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT – It emphasizes the relationship between corporate strategy and initiatives.

 

3. Proportion of Exams – Here to answer your curiosity about how many questions will appear on the PMP Exam and how what is the proportion:

People – 42%
Process – 50%
Business Environment – 8%
Total 100%

Note: According to PMI, the exam will cover agile, hybrid methodologies, and predictive project management approaches. The three above-mentioned domains will contain predictive, agile, and hybrid techniques; these methodologies are not unique to any one domain or activity. Depending on the form, there may be a different amount of exact items for each technique and question type. 4. Exam Structure and Scoring Model Overview: Approximately half of the examination will assess knowledge in the realm of predictive project management methodologies, while the other half will gauge understanding of agile or hybrid approaches. These diverse methodologies will be integrated across the three domain areas mentioned earlier and are not confined to any specific domain or task.

The precise allocation of questions for each methodology and approach may differ between test forms. Rest assured, our scoring model undergoes regular scrutiny by experts in the field to ensure the accurate evaluation of your knowledge and competencies.

5. Number of PMP Exam Questions: The exam now consists of 180 questions, as opposed to the previous 200-question format. Among these, 165 questions will be scored, while the remaining 15 are designated as trial questions.

6. Duration of Exam: There are 230 minutes to complete the exam.

7. Break Rules: For a total of two 10-minute breaks for computer-based exams, one more break is permitted. Paper-based exams have no scheduled breaks.

8. Testing Center: Exams may be taken from home or at the accredited training center of Pearson VUE. Prior to that, it was with the Prometric Center.
