A Step-By-Step Guide To Applying For The ASQ CMQ Certification
Let us now get into the details of how to apply for the ASQ CMQ exam
1. Visit www.asq.org and click Login.
2. If you have already registered on the website, or you are a member of ASQ, then log in with your credentials, if not, select “Register”. Registration is not the same as applying for an ASQ membership. Registration is a free process of logging into ASQ and accessing their available resources at no cost. Once your registration/login is complete, refer to the ‘menu’ option and click on ‘certification’. Next, select the CMQ certification and proceed with the application.
3. Fill in the required details provided to you in the application form.
There are 5 sections you have to complete.
Let’s say Mr. Mike wants to apply for the CMQ Exam. He holds a Master of Business Administration and has more than 15 years of experience in various organizations at different levels. Let us take Mr. Mike as an example, and see how he applies for the exam.
1. Education:
The first section in the ASQ CMQ Exam application is ‘Education’, refer to Figure 1.
Please note that all fields are compulsory and must be filled. This section is self-explanatory, please fill in all the fields. For the location of the institution, typing the city and country instead of a complete address is enough. Attach your school credential, it can be your degree certificate or transcript of record.
Now that the education section is complete, let us move on to the next section – Work Experience.
2. Work Experience:
In this section, Mr. Mike has to fill in his work experience. The minimum work experience to be reported depends on your educational attainment. For more clarity, please touch on table 1 given below.
Table 1: Minimum Work Experience Requirements
Education Attainment | Minimum Work Experience to be Reported |
Diploma from a technical or trade school | 9 years |
Associate degree | 8 years |
Bachelor’s degree | 6 years |
Master’s or doctorate | 5 years |
Since Mr. Mike holds an MBA (Master’s Degree), he needs to show a minimum of five years of experience to qualify. During these 5 years, he should have gathered a degree of experience in one or more of the ASQ CMQ Body of Knowledge.
Here are key points for the work experience requirements:
1. ASQ does not ask for work experience letters or certificates. Thus, you will have to upload your currently updated CV in PDF format.
2. While updating your CV, make sure to include detailed job descriptions under each of your assigned roles at your various workplaces. When mentioning key terms aligning with your job, take the CMQ Body of Knowledge as a reference.
3. Your work experience doesn’t need to be continuous. For example, Mr. Mike can show his 5 years experience from Jan 2010 to Dec 2012 (3 Years) and 2018 to 2019 (2 Years).
4. For each job you have/had, you need to mention the details as shown in Figure 3.
5. Provide your employer information. Refer to Figure 4.
Note: If you are a 3FOLD Training student appearing for the CMQ Exam, please contact us to guide you through the process of updating your CV, in order to align with the ASQ CMQ Requirements.
