To apply for the Certified Cost Professional (CCP) exam through the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), candidates will need to complete the following steps:
1. Review the CCP Certification Requirements: Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of cost management experience or related to any domain of CCP – Domains: Basic Skills & Knowledge, Economic Analysis, Project Management, and Cost Estimating & Control. They must also agree to abide by the AACE’s Code of Ethics.
2. Complete the Online Application Form: Sign up at the AACE website. The application form will require candidates to provide personal and professional information, as well as information about their cost management experience and formal education.
3. Submit the Required Documentation: Candidates will need to submit transcripts or other proof of formal education, work experience letter signed by the employer, and technical paper. Please refer to the below video for detailed instructions on how to submit your exam application.
4. Pay the Application Fee: The application fee for the CCP exam is currently $500 for AACE members and $625 for non-members. Check AACE membership. Each and every fee is due and non-refundable upon application submission. The cost includes our eligibility documentation review and the cost of the computer-based test (CBT).
5. Schedule the Exam: Once the application has been reviewed and approved, candidates will receive instructions on how to schedule their exam at a testing center or opt for an online proctored exam.
6. Take the Exam: The exam is a computer-based test that consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. It covers topics such as cost estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and project control. Candidates will have 5 hours maximum to complete the exam. 120 simple multiple choice and compound, scenario questions: Domains: Basic Skills & Knowledge (38), Economic Analysis (28), Project Management (27), and Cost Estimating & Control (27).
7. Pass the Exam: Achieving Certification. To pass the test, you must receive an overall average score of at least 70%. By averaging the scores across all four domains, the final exam result is determined:
For instance, the average score for the four domains would be 70% if Domain 1 had a score of 69%, Domain 2 of 70%, Domain 3 of 65%, and Domain 4 of 76%. (pass the exam). Additionally, CCP candidates must score at least 70% on the CCP technical paper.
Failed the CCP Exam?
The passed paper is still valid for three years after the date of writing if a candidate passes the test but fails the exam.
Failed the CCP Technical Paper?
Candidates are provided grader feedback on ways to improve the paper and are given 30 days in which to revise and resubmit the paper. The candidate will have to retake the exam and submit a new or revised technical paper if the revision is unsuccessful.
