Topics to write can be difficult to think about and not easy to start but here are the guidelines for choosing a topic.
The content of your Technical Paper must be related to some aspect of Cost Engineering/Total Cost Management.
You may write about quantity surveying, planning and scheduling, estimating, cost controls, project management, claims consulting, engineering, etc.
Tips on How to write a CCP Technical Paper:
1. Pick a target audience and write the paper to consistently meet that experience level. Certification Headquarters Staff and Certification Board Members do not provide topic suggestions nor dictate or approve specific topic categories. You may refer to the Virtual Library for vast collections of technical papers. Register for the AACE to get access to the library.
2. Use the official template. Always start with the abstract and be sure that the paper addresses all the points of interest of the abstract when the paper is finished. It must have 100 to 175 words.
3. The technical paper must have at least 2500 words. Do a word count to be sure you have the numbers correctly. The grader checks this as soon as they received your TP for review. This is usually the first thing they do.
4. The technical paper must have a title page.
5. The technical paper must have a table of contents.
6. Candidates should not use their name or any other identifying information on the technical paper to avoid a biased evaluation. Use your candidate’s AACE ID number as an identifying item for your technical paper. To get an AACE ID, you may create an account on their website. To become a member is non-mandatory.
7. In the body of your technical paper, discuss not only the basis for data but also make an interpretation of the data and its application or analysis. The material must have an organized sequence 3 points are always critically considered during grading:

- Are the references/quotes properly footnoted or referenced?

8. While it is not mandatory to include figures, tables, or equations in the technical paper if any of those can enhance the reader’s understanding of the subject, it is recommended to include them. Just make sure to cite the source if you have borrowed them from someplace or someone else sentences must be completed and observe the appropriate grammar and must not have wrong spelling.
9. The best time to register and submit the technical paper is before the 15th of the month. The grading cycles run on or around the 15th of each month.
10. Sign the Affidavit. This verifies that you understand and agree to subscribe to the Canons of Ethics and that you are the sole author of the submitted technical paper. AACE will give a corresponding disciplinary action to those who have violated rules in writing a technical paper.
11. An acceptable technical paper must be authored solely by the candidate, and be less than three years old.
12. Check Plagiarism. AACE International Certification Program does not tolerate plagiarism, if your Technical Paper is plagiarized, it will not be accepted. Check the guidelines.
